IBM today has announced that they have appointed Caroline Mukiira as the General Manager for IBM East Africa.
She will be responsible for marketing, sales, services and global delivery operations for IBM in East Africa. She succeeds Nik Nesbitt who served the role for the past 7 years.
“Nik Nesbitt’s leadership over the last seven years has helped establish IBM as a leading contributor to East Africa’s economic development agenda and in growing our partnerships with public and private sector organizations across the region,” said Tejas Mehta, Vice President & General Manager, North, East West Africa. “I would like to thank Nik for his leadership and commitment during his tenure at IBM and wishing him all the success in his new endeavor”.
Ms Mukiira led the IBM TradeLens business for Middle East and Africa and was responsible in the transformation and digitization of trade across the region. Prior to the appointment, she was the Global Business Services Keader for IBM in East Africa.
Before joining IBM, she held leadership roles in Accenture (New York) and work at Progressive Insurance in Cleveland, Ohio and co-founded an NGO (Standup for Kids) which caters for homeless youth.
She obtained her Master’s degree in Management and Economics from Columbia University in New York and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
IBM has been in the country for decades. They have a research lab called the Nairobi THINKLab which allows their clients and partners to gain hands on experience with their tech which is quite cool.
